First of all, WARNING!!!! This post contain spoiler. Leave if you think it will ruin your anticipation towards the movie. This is just a review on the movie according to my opinion, so no offend.
I wanna makes review about a heart-breaking and heart-warming story, Haha to Kuraseba (pic credit to the owner). Oh yeah, Nino got his latest award, Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for this movie!!

I watch the making first, before the movie itself. Just watching at the making makes me all tear up TTnTT
The story start when Fukuhara Koji, play by Nino went to his medical school as normally as he does, but that day, August 9th 1948, Nagasaki town was bombed and he died without any traces. Nevertheless, his mother, Fukuhara Nobuko, play by Yoshinaga Sayuri, and his for long lover, Sata Machiko, play by Kuroki Haru, still believed he is still alive until they found any evidence of his death. Their believe prolong even after 3 years have passed.
Mochiko always went to the Fukunaga residence, and take care of Nobuko. It was like her duty to take care of Nobuko, since she always said that Nobuko is her mother-in-law and Koji is her husband, even they're not married yet (this one I'm not quite sure. Seriously. You know you will doubt in when you see the certain scene when Nino put on some silence when his mother push him and saying that they're not married).
After the 3rd year passed, Nobuko decided to moved on and accept the reality that her son already dead. At that night, Koji soul appear in front of his mother (I start crying bit by bit here). But the scene wasn't that heavy since the director put on some light moment between the mother an the son. From then, Koji will drop by sometimes to see and talk to his mother. It seems that only his mother can see him. One thing that his Nobuko realized, Koji will disappeared whenever he is sad and crying.
They always talk about the old thing, when he is still alive. Talk about his brother and his brother push for him become a doctor so that he can take care of his mother. Yeah, his father dies due to tuberculosis, his brother dead in battle field, so he is the only one to take care of his mother, and then, he also died and his mother was left all alone.
They also talk about Machiko. We can see how much Koji loves Machiko and so does Machiko. Whenever Nobuko tells Koji to let go Machiko since she still can find someone for her to b married or tell Machiko to let go of her feelings towards Machiko, Nobuko get the same answer from both of them; they are belong to each other and they won't betray each other.
But, after Koji sulking away, he come back, after think about what his mother told him about Machiko and her future. He knows that he wasn't belongs to that world and Machiko deserve better future than stuck with his memories. Then, he also tell his mother to persuade the same idea to Machiko, to find someone better than him, or more or less like that (even for sure he knows it surely hard and he state it well >_<) to build her future with that man.
Machiko once told Nobuko about Koru-chan, one of the kindergarten teacher. About him that cry a lot after listening to that Mendelssohn music of Koji's since he remember before his death he once hear that melody and he thought that was the last time he listen to it.
There also Shanghai-uncle that always supply black market items to Nobuko. Koji surely jealous of that and hates it when the Shanghai-uncle tease her mother and her mother just laugh it off. He even threatens his mother to tells his father about it if he meet him (this ones surely a cute one >_<).
This comes to almost the climax of the movie!
At early morning of new year, Shanghai-uncle comes by and provide the black market item. But this time, Nobuko refuse and said that Koji got mad at her because of that. Shanghai-uncle really shock hearing at that, but he back off and respect her decision.
Not long after that, Machiko comes and visit her after such a long time she did that. But this times, she wasn't alone. She brings Kuro-chan with her to be introduced to Nobuko. It is such as ask for her blessing since she get engaged to him. Kuro-chan also knows about Koji and promise him that he will take a good care of Machiko. Then Machiko crying and hugging the weak Nobuko (seriously, she looks sooooooo ill) asking for forgiveness. Like she don't know what she would say to Koji since she betray their feelings.
Then, when Nobuko want to take a rest, Koji visit her mother and he usher her to take a good rest since she looks unwell. She told him about Machiko and Kuro-chan, and Koji accept it. Nobuko said, "Can you come back tomorrow since I was too tired," or something like that. Koji nods and turn back, but not until the end of the room, he turns back to his mother that already ready to sleep and told her, "I'm sorry, mom. I don't think I will come back anymore" or something similar to that.
Nobuko was soo surprised hearing that. Then, he said that he won't come back anymore but they will always be together. When his mother ask why, that is because his mother already in the same world as him. That when Nobuko realize that she already dead and that wasn't makes she sad, but happy instead since she can always be by his son's side.
The most heartbreaking since and makes me cry a lot when, both of the attend Nobuko funeral that held at a small church. At there, Koji saw Machiko with Kuro-chan. Then, there is a little girl where Nobuko once a time visit her house as her mother is having a labour and Nobuko is the midwife. It seems that the little girl can see them and smiles to them. When Nobuko ask about the baby, she said the baby is in good health before Koji guide his mother to the 'thereafter' life-like.
The story end with both of them being together happily.
And that's the end for this time review. Maybe I'll write about one of the latest movie I watch, Orange. Otanoshimi~~
p/s: After crying because of this movie, I continue my crying journey with watching Oh-chan butai, Tensei Kuppu..
a/n: English is not my primary languages, So sorry for the wrong grammar here and there m_m
